In June 2023, a pivotal milestone was reached as the United States officially placed the Salish Lodge & Spa parcels, now under the tribe’s ownership, into trust status. This marked not only a crucial step towards safeguarding the breathtaking Snoqualmie Falls but also a significant stride in the Tribe’s economic development endeavors. The design I crafted captures the essence of this momentous event. At its core are two hands, evoking the ancestral connection of the Snoqualmie Tribe to their land and heritage. These hands represent unity, strength, and the continuation of a rich legacy. The hands take the form of a heart, a symbol of the Tribe’s deep affection for their land, culture, and the newfound trust status. Central to the design is the depiction of the majestic Snoqualmie Falls within the heart shape formed by the hands. This artistic choice signifies the heart of the Tribe and their people’s inherent tie to the Falls. It speaks to the profound significance of the land, both as a source of natural beauty and as a cherished site of cultural importance. The Falls serve as a reminder of the Tribe’s ongoing commitment to preserving their heritage and the environment.
The journey of creating this design was a deeply personal one. It began with a dream that ignited my inspiration. Translating that inspiration into reality involved photographing my own hands, capturing their unique contours and lines. Through tracing and sketching, I meticulously crafted the elements that would find their place in the final design. Using Procreate, I brought the vision to life, allowing each stroke to carry the weight of the Tribe’s journey and the Falls’ significance. In summary, the design I crafted for the Snoqualmie Tribe encapsulates the profound step taken by the United States to put the Salish Lodge & Spa parcels into trust status. The two hands forming a heart, cradling the depiction of the Snoqualmie Falls, symbolize the unity, resilience, and cultural importance of the Tribe and their land. This design is a testament to the Tribe’s history, values, and aspirations, as well as a celebration of a brighter future.
