I was invited by Inktally to illustrate the cover and layout for a mindfulness journal that promoted inner peace and self-reflection. The goal was to incorporate elements that would inspire daily introspection. The journal was designed to be in landscape orientation and A5 sizing, making it convenient for users to engage in reflective practices.
This brief was part of a larger series hosted by Inktally, spanning over 10 weeks with a total of 5 design briefs related to illustration. Each brief had a winner who was shortlisted, and at the end of the 5 briefs, one overall winner was announced via Inktally's Instagram. The winner would then receive a mentorship from Inktally, making it a rewarding opportunity to grow as a designer.
My design for this journal is a visual representation of the journey of self-reflection. The vibrant orange flowers with their delicate green stems symbolize growth, renewal, and the beauty that comes from introspection. They represent the idea that through introspection, individuals can bloom and flourish, just like flowers in a garden. The choice of a light cream background was intentional, as it provides a sense of calm and serenity. It creates a peaceful atmosphere, inviting users to immerse themselves in moments of quiet contemplation. This background color also enhances the vibrancy of the orange flowers, making them stand out as focal points of the design.
In the center of the cover, the text "Time to Reflect" is prominently displayed. This text serves as a gentle reminder of the journal's purpose – to encourage daily moments of introspection and mindfulness. It invites users to take a pause from their busy lives and dedicate time to self-reflection, fostering a deeper understanding of oneself and one's journey. Overall, the design elements work harmoniously to create a visually appealing and meaningful cover for the mindfulness journal, setting the tone for a fulfilling experience of self-discovery and personal growth.
